Established in 1984 by David Robinson, founder and principal, David Robinson Design (DRD) is one of today's foremost design firms. DRD specializes in restaurant design and Robinson himself is positioned among the industry's most innovative and accomplished designers in Southern California.
Based in a Jolla, California, DRD was intended from the beginning to remain small and focused with the primary desire to provide its clients with the highest quality service. The firm's wide-ranging portfolio includes commercial and institutional properties, corporate interiors, hotels, restaurants, and retail stores, as well as residential interiors.
Robinson's personal achievements as an artist, photographer and graphic designer, bring to each project artistic treatments that are a hallmark of DRD. The firm's ongoing collaborations with other artisans and craftsmen give each project a distinctive finish that is a synthesis of form, texture, color and light.

David Robinson is a native of Bermuda and was educated at Warwick Academy and then Northcliff in England before obtaining a Bachelor of Architecture degree (1974) from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Lured by an opportunity to design exhibits in a private airport for Howard Hughes, Robinson moved to La Jolla, California in 1976 and stayed.
He has three separate yet intertwined areas of expertise, - Interior Design, Photography and Graphic Design. He has made his living in all three areas and founded David Robinson Design Inc (DRD) in 1984, currently concentrating on restaurant and residential design.
Designer David B. Robinson is responsible for the personalities of some of Southern California's most innovative and intriguing interior spaces. He is known for his creative fusion of classic and contemporary styles, dramatic lighting and the use of native materials and local artisans. Robinson's intuitive sense of space, color, texture and light has made him the designer of choice for several of San Diego's most prominent restaurateurs. His signature interior spaces are now home to some of the city's most successful restaurants.
In addition to restaurant design, Robinson and his company are known for some of the city's most remarkable graphics and signage projects, including the elaborate entry sign at San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter which has helped establish the area as one of the most "happening" downtowns in the U.S.
His interior design goes beyond commercial projects. Recently Robinson also designed some spectacular home interiors. As well as running his successful design firm, Robinson is never far away from his passion of photography and digital painting and is known for giving back to the community through numerous philanthropic projects..
